A refined two-tiered lacquered headdress stand 冠卓 (kanmuri’shoku), finished in a warm deep red lacquer and decorated with pine trees 松 (matsu) and a pair of cranes 鶴 (tsuru) in flight. The lower tier is decorated with rolling waves and a frothing splash, creating a lively contrast with the more restrained decoration above. The design is executed in hiramaki-e 平蒔絵 (low-relief lacquer design) in shades of gold with red and black accents. The stand is raised on four gently spreading feet. The lower tier has an elegant arched profile, while the upper tier is supported by four slender uprights. Complete with its original wooden tomobako 供箱 (storage box), bearing a dated inscription for Shôwa 3 昭和三年 (1928). Period: Japan – Early Shôwa period (1928). Dimensions: Height 29.1 cm, Width 54.5 cm, Depth 33 cm. In very good antique condition with only minor traces of age and use. There is some fine craquelure to the lacquer surface around the leg. Please refer to the photographs for a clear impression of the condition. When shipped, a certificate of authenticity will be included.
