We are perhaps more consciously affected by Impressionism for the attitude of mind it embodies, and particularly for that feeling of a sunny, healthy, hedonistic outlook on life…. It is this sort of Impressionism which characterizes the extensive retrospective exhibition of paintings and drawings by Mr. Paul Maze…. The pleasures of life are chronicled with vivacity and evident enjoyment. Observation is swift, execution sure and prolific. Boating takes place at Henley rather than at Argenteuil, the race-meetings which call Degas so much to mind are at Goodwood or Ascot as much as at Longchamps, but it is the same charming, busy world as that of Manet, Renoir, Pissarro, Monet, and even Bonnard which inspires each picture in spite of the documentary evidence that it records a later age….
