Oil on canvas “Crepuscular Symbolist Landscape with Mystic Figures” Attributed to Gabriel von Max Signed bottom left: G Max Measurements: 88x108; 72x88 outside the frame Good condition. The work has recently undergone a conservative restoration and professional cleaning carried out by an accredited restoration studio. This restoration removed time-yellowed varnishes, restoring the original chromatic brilliance and the depth of chiaroscuro. The restoration confirmed the absolute integrity and contemporaneity of the signature "G. Max" at the lower left, excluding later overpaintings or alterations of the sigil, which is structurally integrated into the original painting layer. The work depicts a scene imbued with mysticism and spirituality, typical of the artist's lyrical and esoteric language. At dusk, under a sky dominated by dense clouds and a soft, slanting sunlight, several figures cloaked in white tunics (evoking monks or Paleochristian wayfarers) populate the space. On the right stands an ancient stone hermitage with a stairway, topped by a lit lantern and a small votive cross. The composition is masterfully built on the contrast between the earthy, dark tones of the landscape and the ethereal whiteness of the figures’ garments, illuminated by an almost supernatural light.
