Delage D6 3 Litres par Autobineau – 1950 French registration title Sold without contrôle technique SANS RÉSERVE Founded in 1905, Delage exhibited its first two models at the Grand Palais Motor Show, where they were an instant success. By 1906, Delage was making a name for itself in the Grand Prix des Voiturettes and even won the Indianapolis 500 in 1914. Delage produced innovative engines, beautiful racing chassis, and luxury leather-upholstered bodies and interiors for an elegant clientele. The 1920s were a prosperous period for the brand, which consolidated its image and technical developments through competition. In the 1930s, despite the economic crisis, Louis Delage persisted in producing luxury cars. Driving a Delage was then a privilege reserved for people of taste, but above all for the wealthy. The consequences of the economic crisis ultimately did not spare Delage, which went bankrupt in 1935. Delahaye then took over the Delage brand under licence until it disappeared in 1953. After the war, Delage continued to produce the D6, equipped with a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine and almost 90 bhp. The chassis were often sold bare and then had to be bodied. A more powerful version called the ‘Olympic’ was produced, based on the same engine block but this time powered by three carburettors. With 100 hp, this engine could reach speeds of 140 km/h. The model we are presenting is a Delage D6 3L. It is one of the few examples to feature bodywork by Autobineau, a subsidiary of Letourneur & Marchand. The car is a generously sized 6-window saloon, not lacking in elegance beneath its Autobineau bodywork. This car is in very good overall condition. Its attractive patina gives it that extra charm and authenticity that only time and careful use can provide. Its blue paintwork, which was redone a few years ago, is enhanced by chrome trim that is also in good condition. Importantly, it has retained its original blue upholstery with beige piping, a sign of exceptional build quality. The decorative and structural woodwork is also in good condition. It has numerous original features and options, including a sunroof, a period car radio, a Soliflore and a nice Quillery steering wheel. Its original 3-litre 6-cylinder 3-carburettor engine is paired with a Cotal gearbox. This car has had only five owners, the last one having acquired it in 2015. As it has not been used, the mechanics will need to be serviced before the car can be driven again. This elegant Delage will take you smoothly wherever you want to go in exceptional comfort and style. It is one of the last models produced by this manufacturer, one of the last examples of the expertise of this great name in French motoring.
