Yves Ganne (1931-2019) - Le Café de la plage (Vendu sans prix de réserve)

We present to you this superb oil on canvas signed by Yves Ganne (1932-2019) in which we see young women and young men chatting at a beach café. Title: The Beach Café Artist: Yves Ganne (1931-2019) Technique: Oil on canvas mounted on stretcher. Signed at the bottom right. Counter-signed and dated on the back. Format: 64 x 53.5 cm Condition: Good condition. Yves Ganne was born in Angers on July 13, 1931. He studied at the School of Fine Arts of Nantes, which he entered in 1946. In 1950 he moved to Paris to join Fernand Léger’s studio. He also received in 1950 two major distinctions: the Prize for Young Painting and the City of Menton Prize. His talent was recognized by institutions as early as 1951; two of his paintings were acquired by the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. He regularly exhibited in Paris, notably at Galerie Drouant-David (1954, 1958) and more recently at Galerie Francis Barlier in Paris and Honfleur (1994, 2003, 2004). He also exhibited with the greatest, notably in 1954 with Bernard Buffet at the Visconti Gallery. His work crosses French borders. From 1956, he was shown at Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery in London. His work was also presented in the United States: at Cushman Gallery in Houston (1959), at Van Diemen Lilienfeld Gallery in New York (1966), then at Dalzell-Hatfield Gallery in Los Angeles (1968). In Sweden, he was welcomed at Borstahusens Konstforening Gallery at Landskrona Konsthall (1975). Yves Ganne participated in numerous collective exhibitions: the Salon of the Young Painting, the Salon of the School of Paris at Galerie Charpentier (from 1954), the Salon of Painters Witnessing Their Time (1956), or the first Biennale of Paris in 1959. His style, deeply rooted in the French figurative tradition, is distinguished by a personal vision of the still life, the female portrait, and genre scenes. He avoids any academism by favoring a sensitive and balanced expression, where color plays a central role. From 1965 he produced more than 250 original lithographic editions, distributed in France, the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and Japan. Today his works are housed in prestigious public French collections, notably the National Museum of Modern Art – Centre Pompidou, the City of Paris’ Modern Art Museum, but also internationally such as in the Cincinnati Museum (Ohio), Seattle Museum (Washington), or Edinburgh in Scotland.
