With a vibrant and expressive aesthetic, Yamila Velázquez manages to fuse classical influences with a modern language, resulting in versatile, fresh and deeply evocative works. The pictorial texture of her images, the masterful use of color, and the emotionally balanced composition position her work as a current artistic proposal of high aesthetic value. This notable sacred artwork, which depicts Mary and Jesus as high-quality porcelain figures with their radiant Sacred Hearts, transcends traditional iconography by incorporating the deep philosophy and aesthetics of Kintsugi. The Japanese technique of Kintsugi, which celebrates the beauty of imperfection and resilience by repairing cracks with gold dust, is manifested here in the intricate gold lines that traverse the faces, hands and garments of the figures. This “golden union” not only highlights supposed fractures, but elevates them, symbolizing redemption and the strength that arises from overcoming wounds and trials of life, turning scars into marks of divine beauty. The interaction between the perceived fragility of porcelain and the luminous solidity of the gold repairs adds a layer of contemporary spiritual meaning and a unique aesthetic sophistication, perfect for a collection of sacred and modern art.
