Y A GEORGE IV AMBOYNA AND ROSEWOOD CROSSBANDED WRITING OR CENTRE TABLE

Y A GEORGE IV AMBOYNA AND ROSEWOOD CROSSBANDED WRITING OR CENTRE TABLE IN THE MANNER OF MOREL & SEDDON, CIRCA 1830 73.5cm high, 138cm wide, 86cm deep Morel & Seddon's main commission from 1827-1832 was for Windsor Castle. The present table shows similarities to a pair Windsor Castle tables - RCIN 20148, supplied between 1827-29, with the use of burr wood, end support and carved bracket design. A giltwood stool supplied by Morel & Seddon to Windsor Castle circa 1828 - RCIN 35825, has related distinctive quadrant feet. Condition Report: Marks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old minor splits and chips. Generally very good, and of the highest quality. The top is flat and free from splits or cracks and is a mellow colour The frieze drawers are all mahogany lined, the locks may have been refixed , on this note no key is present but a suitable key can be easily mated to these locks by an experienced furniture restorer, both locks are currently in their unlocked state. Both drawers run without issue. The burr veneer that is present on the drawer fronts is continued all around the frieze even in areas which may not be visible when viewing the piece from its natural perspective, the panels and contrasting inlay continues in this manner on the inside faces of the stile supports, even where it may not normally be seen, always a sign of extreme quality and craftsmanship The sledge feet have some inevitable signs of light historic woodworm.
