This cotton fabric features a rich botanical motif inspired by William Morris’s historic Chrysanthemum pattern. The design is dominated by large chrysanthemum flowers, full and layered, with soft petals that are gently curved to create a voluminous and ornamental effect. The leaves, wide and veined, are rendered with fine lines reminiscent of nineteenth-century botanical illustrations. The fabric presents an elegant and natural palette: dark navy blue background, large cream/ivory flowers, leaves in sage green and olive green tones, with lighter yellow-green elements. The dark blue outlines create a pleasant contrast and enhance the floral design. The pattern layout is typically Arts & Crafts: no rigidity, but an organic and continuous flow that makes the fabric lively, natural and sophisticated. William Morris (Walthamstow, 24 March 1834 – London, 3 October 1896) was a British artist and writer. Morris was among the principal founders of the Arts and Crafts movement; he is considered a forerunner of modern designers and had a significant influence on architecture and architects of his time. He is widely regarded as the father of the Modern Movement, although he was not an architect himself. He founded a design studio in collaboration with the artist Edward Burne-Jones and the poet and artist Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who deeply influenced church and home decoration in the twentieth century.
