Interesting and extremely rare photograph by William England (1830-1896), albumen print, mounted on cardboard with captions at the bottom, size 8.5 x 7.5, in excellent condition, no signs, corners and edges perfect, from a collection. The vintage photograph shows Lake Gran San Bernardo (French Lac au Grand St. Bernard) with the summit of Pain de Sucre (Pan di Zucchero) in the background, located at the border between Switzerland and Italy (Valle d'Aosta). Author: The shot bears the signature of the British photographer W. England (William England), known for his extensive photographic documentation of Alpine and Swiss landscapes in the 19th century. Subject: Two hikers in period clothing sit on rocks in the foreground, looking out over the waters of the alpine lake near the Grand Saint Bernard Pass.
