William Arthur L. Carrick (Glasgow, 1879–1964) - Ruthven Castle

Title: Ruthven Castle Author: William Arthur L. Carrick (Glasgow, 1879–1964) Technique: Oil on panel Unframed dimensions: 31 × 45 cm Framed dimensions: 44.5 × 58 cm Description: Scottish landscape of vibrant atmospheric sensitivity, where Ruthven Castle is seen amid a majestic natural setting. The loose and expressive brushwork, characteristic of Carrick, gives dynamism to the cloudy sky and the reflections of the water in the foreground. The bare trees and autumn tones suggest a transitional season, heightening the romantic melancholy of the ruined castle. The work is mounted in a period frame.
