WEST AFRICA, MALI, DOGON COUNTRY Dark wood hut door, slightly eroded, decorated with abstract and geometric motifs related to protection and cosmogonic symbols. These Sahel doors are used to protect food supplies. Unlike in other parts of Africa, where doors could be decorated with figurative motifs. They were adorned with only abstract motifs, cruciforms or incisions, which were repeated, giving them the symbolic ability to protect against spirits. Rests on a fine metal base.
