Virgil Walter Ross (American, 1907-1996), Framed Daffy Duck Drawing and Sericel

Virgil Walter Ross was an American animator and cartoonist born in Watertown, New York. He moved to California with his family and began his artistic career creating title cards for silent films. He entered the animation industry in 1930, working for Charles Mintz, Ub Iwerks, and Walter Lantz before joining Warner Bros. in 1935 under director Tex Avery. During his nearly three-decade tenure at Warner Bros., Ross worked closely with legendary animators Bob Clampett and Friz Freleng, contributing to more than 230 animated shorts featuring iconic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, and Yosemite Sam. His work included the Academy Award-nominated A Wild Hare (1940) and several Oscar-winning cartoons. Later in his career, Ross worked for Hanna-Barbera, Filmation, and other animation studios. In 1988, he received the prestigious Winsor McCay Award for lifetime achievement in animation. Good estate condition, the drawing with light toning, neither examined outside the frame.
