Violet Heath - Gary Westall

Violet Heath by Gary Westall Painting 9.5 x 11.8 :: This painting was created during the biennial plein air event in the Kirchdorfer Heide. I worked right on site and wanted to capture the unique colors of the heath as well as the atmosphere of that summer day. I was particularly fascinated by the purple expanses of the heath in contrast to the various shades of green and blue in the trees and the sky. Using visible brushstrokes I tried to directly capture the textures of the vegetation and the vibrant atmosphere of the landscape.
