Vintage Emerald and Diamond Cluster Ring in Yellow Gold, c. 1980s

Jardin, meaning garden - this is the poetic name given to the characteristic crystalline inclusion pattern of the emerald. Just like its color and cut, it is this inclusion pattern that distinguishes each emerald from another and makes the naturally grown stone unique. The strength of the jardin varies greatly from stone to stone. Some emeralds are almost opaque, such is the proliferation of plants in the gemstone garden. Other emeralds, on the other hand, are almost completely transparent and clear and the view into the garden is like looking across a spring meadow In this case, an intensely green emerald has become a ring with hardly any inclusions and is therefore very clear and bright to the eye. The emerald is oval faceted and weighs 1.28 ct. It most likely originates from East Africa. The cut of the emerald also determines the basic shape of the ring face. The emerald is surrounded by around one carat of white diamonds. There is no more ornament than this. A sturdy ring band is attached to the side, which, like the settings, is made of yellow gold and harmoniously rounds off the play of colors. The goldsmith's work that turns the emerald into a ring is based on designs from the turn of the century. However, the cuts of the stones and the details of the workmanship suggest that the ring was created in the 1980s, presumably in the United States. At that time, numerous nostalgic pieces of jewellery were created in historical shapes. The beautiful ring is in excellent condition and comes with a detailed certificate from the German Gemstone Appraisal Society in Idar-Oberstein, which confirms the quality of its materials
