Vintage Creative Kokeshi by Watanabe 36 cm tall Chigo Zakura reached the peak of her popularity when one day she was chosen from among many to be offered as a gift to the Beatles during their visit to Japan in 1965. This kokeshi doll is made by a Yajiro-style artist Masao Watanabe, who won a Japanese Prime Minister's Award in 1963 and 1971. The decoration is very distinctive and stands out for its elegant stripes in warm red and black tones that evoke the suggestive nuanced colors of a sunset.
