Vintage Brooch Made of White Gold With Sapphire & Diamonds, Hanau ca. 1965

The brooch here is in full bloom for almost 60 years. Sparkling first quality diamonds are set in white gold to form a large exotic flower. Baguette cut diamonds are added as stems on the side. An intense blue sapphire lies at their center, complementing the cool colourfulness. The brooch is a typical work of the 1960s, it was created in Germany, more precisely, in Hanau as evidenced by the hallmarks on the back. The individual forms are powerful, but at the same time quite playful and cheerful. The reduced colourfulness corresponds entirely to the international, glamorous taste of the era and also the processing, for example, with the diamond baguettes is typical of the time. The attached illustration shows a similar clip brooch, made in Germany in 1962 and published in the brochure for the exhibition "Juwelen aus alter und neuer Zeit", Kunstmuseum der Stadt Düsseldorf, 1962, p. 5. For other examples of diamond flower brooches of the period, see David Bennet and Daniela Mascetti: Understanding Jewellery, Woodbridge 2010, p. 432, figs. 816 and 817. A total of 83 diamonds weighing about 5.42 ct altogether set the flower, so that every movement of its wearer makes it shine with new brilliance. Their quality has been determined by an independent appraisal, which is enclosed with the brooch. Thus, the work is a precious addition to collections of high-quality vintage jewellery as well as a unique gift of love.
