It represents the interconnectedness of all life, destiny, and rebirth. Its roots reach deep into the underworld while its branches reach high into the heavens, housing various mythical entities like the dragon Níðhöggr (Nidhögg) at its base and a wise eagle at its crown. Yggdrasil is also profoundly tied to Odin, who famously hanged himself from its branches for nine nights to sacrifice himself to himself and gain the wisdom of the magical runes. Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been carefully examined for its material and surface characteristics. Laboratory analysis (e.g. XRF) is not routinely undertaken in private collecting, and destructive testing is avoided as it causes permanent damage to archaeological material. Before modern hallmarking, gold and silver alloys varied depending on local resources, recycling practices and economic conditions.
