About the artist: Victor Vasarely: (1906-1997) French painter of Hungarian origin, acknowledged as the father of optical art, or "op-art." His works are in the world’s major museums, including: Hara Museum of Contemporary Art (Japan); Fondation Vasarely, Centre Pompidou (France); The Walker Art Center, the MOMA, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim, New York (USA); Das Museum Folkwang (Germany); Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal); Kröller-Müller Museum (Netherlands); Queensland Art Gallery (Australia); Nykytaiteen museo Kiasma (Finland); Horsens Kunstmuseum (Denmark); Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Italy); National Gallery of Scotland, Tate Collection (United Kingdom); Kunstmuseum Lichtenstein (Liechtenstein); Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (Argentina); Museum of Contemporary Art Skopje (FYROM); Henie Onstad Museum (Norway); Victor Vasarely Museum, Pécs (Hungary); Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Caracas (Venezuela); Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (Canada)... About the work: Vasarely’s perfectionism imposes an absolute quality standard that only at that time the presses of Basel printers could meet. Thus, between 1971 and 1978, Editions du Griffon, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, were entrusted by Victor Vasarely with the realization, distribution, and diffusion of 19 albums and 12 serigraphs comprising the full panoply of his works. This unique print comes from a special edition titled "Ondulatoires" which was designed and supervised by Victor Vasarely himself, and it is with this same concern for quality that Editions du Griffon gave exceptional care to these series of albums printed in the 1970s, identifiable by the copyright on the back of the prints.
