VELDA Tapis LANO Tapyt FLANDRIA - Freddy Maertens - 1978 - Cycling jersey

This is the iconic red winter- or long-sleeve jersey from the Belgian cycling team Flandria-Velda-Lano from the 1978 season. This garment features the original autograph of Freddy Maertens (top left on the chest, just above the letters "VE"). Maertens had a powerhouse year in 1978 in this type of jersey, in which he won, among other things, the green jersey in the Tour de France and took Omloop Het Volk for his own. The legendary 'Rode Garde' of Flandria rode in 1978 with a renewed sponsor combination. Central on the chest you can see the sponsors Velda (mattresses), Lano (Belgian carpet manufacturer, visible as Tapis Lano Tapijt) and main sponsor Flandria (bikes). On the sleeves is also a sub-sponsor Apis to be found.
