VEB Henneberg Porzellan / Graf von Henneberg - Oil lamp...

VEB Henneberg Porzellan Ilmenau – Porcelain Olympic Torchbearer Oil Lamp / Spirit Lamp (1983–1984) – Mold number 12594 Description: A rare and historically notable porcelain figure depicting an athletic Olympic torchbearer, produced by the renowned East German manufacturer VEB Henneberg Porzellan Ilmenau (Graf von Henneberg, Thuringia, GDR). This particular piece was cast around 1983–1984 for the Olympic Summer Games in 1984 in Los Angeles. Due to the boycott by the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc (including the GDR), this official commemorative item was not distributed through the regular channels at the time. Only after the fall of the Berlin Wall did preserved stock from the factory warehouses reach the antique and collectibles market. The figure stands on a sleek, rectangular plinth with the relief of the Olympic rings on the front. The characteristic feature is the functional design as an oil- or spirit-lamp: the arm serves as the reservoir and the detached torch head contains the original wick. On the underside the sculpture is blind-stamped with the specific mold number 12594 and the factory code.
