Vase - Porcelain

A fine and elegant Saiyū-glazed Kutani porcelain vase by Tokuda Yasokichi III (1933–2009), of globular form with a broad, rounded body tapering gracefully towards a short, flared neck. The surface displays a sophisticated gradation of colour, transitioning from deep shades of purple on the lower body to rich blue, turquoise, and green tones towards the upper section. Around the shoulder runs a broad decorative band of finely delineated geometric patterns, arranged in overlapping bands of diamonds, triangles, and intricate linear motifs. The underside bears the signature Kutani Masahiko (九谷 正彦). Masahiko was the name used by the artist before succeeding his father in 1988 and inheriting the title Tokuda Yasokichi III (徳田八十吉 三代). In 1997, he was designated a Living National Treasure of Japan in recognition of his mastery of the innovative saiyu glazing technique. Works by Tokuda Yasokichi III, including examples from his earlier period signed "Kutani Masahiko", are held in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, and the British Museum, London. Accompanied by the original tomobako. The vase is in very good condition. Please refer to the pictures for further details. ---The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL express or FedEx. The original certificate of authenticity issued by our gallery will be provided to the buyer. 098
