Vase - Glass - to Simon Gate-ORREFORS

Beautiful demi-crystal vase on a foot. The vase has a baluster shape and stands on a heavy and solid polygonal base that adds stability and presence to the whole. It is characterized by a clean and well-proportioned cubist design with bold geometric cuts and brilliant clarity. The deep angular facets capture and reflect light from every angle. This vase clearly shows its kinship with the designs of Simon Gate (1883–1945) for the Swedish glassworks Orrefors. (cf. Thousand Windows / Tusen Fönster). Simon Gate (1883–1945) was a pioneering Swedish glass artist, painter and designer who put the Orrefors glassworks on the world map. Together with fellow designer Edward Hald and master glassblower Knut Bergqvist, he transformed the former producer of window glass and bottles into an international symbol of luxury crystal and innovative design.
