Vase - Ceramic - Asia - double calabash (No reserve price)

Description A particularly decorative and atmospheric Chinese double-gourd vase. The vase immediately catches the eye with its warm ochre-yellow ground color and the rich, around-the-body decoration. Against this yellow background, the design features very detailed flourishing vines, flowers, large deep green leaves, butterflies and a bird. The color palette strongly evokes the Chinese famille jaune / famille verte tradition. A particularly attractive feature is that the decoration continues completely around the vase. Each turn of the vase reveals a different scene: on one side the lush flowers and leaves dominate, while on the other side a beautifully painted bird and butterflies come into view. The shape is also striking. The elegant double-gourd form consists of two smoothly transitioning volumes, with small geometrical ears at the waist on both sides. The pink/purple tinted lip and the two dark lines around the foot provide subtle accents. The surface shows a fine, delicate craquelé, giving the vase a distinct antique appearance. The base and unglazed foot ring also show clear signs of age and use. A very decorative Chinese collectible object that, due to the combination of the yellow ground, botanical decoration, bird and butterflies, and the elegant form, fits particularly well in both classical and modern interiors. Condition For its age, the vase is in very nice antique condition. No chips, no hairlines and no visible restorations. Natural signs of aging, patina, local wear and craquelé appropriate for an object of this age. The photos show the condition and decoration in detail and are part of the description.
