Val Saint Lambert – Luxval Art Deco Rosaline Demi-Crystal Pedestal Bowl – c. 1924–1935 No reserve price An elegant and highly decorative Art Deco pedestal bowl by Val Saint Lambert, Belgium, made in delicate rosaline demi-cristal. With its broad scalloped bowl raised on a tall architectural foot, the piece was conceived as an impressive table decoration and can be used as a centerpiece, fruit bowl or serving bowl for sweets and confectionery. The model is already documented in the January 1924 Val Saint Lambert catalogue, Articles en Cristal et en Demi-Cristal moulés à la presse, where this distinctive family of pedestal bowls appears among the factory’s modern pressed-glass designs. During the following decade, the form became part of the celebrated Luxval collection, one of Val Saint Lambert’s most recognizable ranges and closely associated today with Belgian Art Deco. The design is particularly successful in this soft rosaline pink demi-crystal. The wide flower-like bowl is formed from a rhythm of broad geometric lobes, while the tall moulded pedestal gives the piece an elegant, almost architectural silhouette. A radiating sunburst decoration at the centre catches the light beautifully and emphasizes the transparency and warm pink tone of the glass. The historical importance of the series is also demonstrated by its museum representation. A closely related version from the same series, with a shorter foot, was displayed in Charleroi in an exhibition devoted to Val Saint Lambert’s Luxval and Art Deco production. A photograph of the museum display is included among the documentation, together with the 1924 catalogue and later Luxval catalogue illustrations, allowing the evolution and continuity of the design to be clearly traced. The bowl bears the moulded VAL ST. LAMBERT factory signature, confirming its authenticity. It remains in very good antique condition, with only very minor traces of use consistent with age. Considering that the design is now approximately 100 years old, its preservation is particularly remarkable. A refined and collectible example of Belgian Art Deco glass, combining the sculptural geometry of early Val Saint Lambert pressed demi-crystal with the unmistakable elegance of the iconic Luxval era. Val Saint Lambert, nestled in Seraing near Liège, Belgium, is a beacon of crystal craftsmanship with a legacy spanning nearly two centuries. Established in 1826 by chemist François Kemlin and engineer Auguste Lelièvre, the company transformed the remnants of the Val-Saint-Lambert Abbey into a thriving glassworks. The 19th century marked a period of significant growth for Val Saint Lambert. By the early 1900s, the company employed over 5,000 workers, producing 120,000 pieces of glass daily. Their creations, renowned for exceptional quality and intricate designs, found admirers worldwide, including in Tsarist Russia and North America. A testament to their artistry is the “Vase of the Nine Provinces,” a monumental piece over 2 meters tall and weighing 200 kilograms, crafted for the 1894 World Exhibition in Antwerp. The 20th century brought challenges, including the impacts of two World Wars and economic downturns. Despite these obstacles, Val Saint Lambert’s resilience ensured the preservation of its artisanal heritage. Today, the company seamlessly blends traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, producing exquisite crystal pieces that cater to modern aesthetics. Val Saint Lambert stands as a symbol of Belgian craftsmanship, where each piece reflects a harmonious blend of history, artistry, and innovation. Some bubbles are normal in items made of pressed glass. Will be well packaged, protected and insured
