Uruguayan Amethyst Druze with a Calcite Crystal Inclusion...

Amethyst Druze with Calcite Crystal — This specimen is a remarkable section of amethyst geode from the famous Uruguayan deposits. The object presents itself in a self-supporting form (free-standing), obtained through targeted cutting and polishing that highlight the internal cavity, transforming it into a natural sculpture. The most distinctive feature, besides the intense color of the quartz, is the presence of a large well-formed Calcite crystal, which creates an exceptional color and morphological contrast. The internal cavity is lined with a dense druzy of amethyst crystals. The tips, of varying sizes, show a well-defined prismatic termination and a vitreous luster that captures and reflects light, creating a continuous sparkle. The color is the strong point of this specimen: a deep and saturated violet, typical of the best Uruguayan quality, with shades ranging from purple to eggplant. The transparency of the individual crystals allows appreciation of inner purity. Intervening to interrupt the violet homogeneity of the druzy is an imposing Calcite crystal. Of white-cream color and with an almost pearlescent shine, it occupies a significant portion of the cavity. Its massive structure and the rhombohedral cleavage surfaces clearly visible contrast magnificently with the delicate architecture of the surrounding quartz crystals. This mineralogical association is not only aesthetically valuable but also tells the depositional history of the geode, bearing witness to a later crystallization phase. The outer edge of the specimen has been skillfully polished to reveal the stratigraphy of the geode. A thin layer of Agate Calcedonio in gray-green tones is visible, which constitutes the first crystallization membrane formed inside the original volcanic gas bubble. This layer acts as a transition to the basalt mother rock, which forms the outer crust, left rough to preserve the natural appearance and provide a stable base for the specimen. A specimen of this quality represents a piece of great interest both for the mineral collector, who will appreciate the superb combination of Amethyst and Calcite and the valuable provenance, and for interior decoration. Its sculptural form and the chromatic dialogue between the intense violet and the pure white make it a decorative object of great visual impact, perfect to be displayed on a bookshelf, on a desk, or as the centerpiece of a modern "Cabinet of Curiosities".
