Undated (ca. 1865) Washington and Lincoln Medal by John Marr. Musante

Undated (ca. 1865) Washington and Lincoln Medal by John Marr. Musante GW-769, Baker-231, Cunningham 30-1280W, King-837. White Metal. AU-58 (PCGS). 32.1 mm. Warmly and originally toned in olive and mauve-gray with pretty underlying blue and gold. Wear is trivial, but both sides are peppered with small to moderate size marks and nicks that confirm the Choice AU grade from PCGS. A very rare medal. According to Rulau and Fuld, just 10 were struck in white metal. While they cite no source, we have no reason to think otherwise as we have only one in our archives, the William Spohn Baker Collection specimen that realized $2,640 in our November 2019 Baltimore Auction, as PCGS MS-62. We also handled one in vulcanite (Baker-231A), from the John J. Ford, Jr. holdings, which brought just over $1,100 in our September 2013 sale. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Image with the PCGS TrueView logo is obtained from and is subject to a license agreement with Collectors Universe, Inc. and its divisions PCGS and PSA.
