Two torfans topped with snake heads, Gan, Burkina Faso, 19th-20th centuries

Descriptio Copper alloy. Measurements: 29 and 39 cm in length. Set consisting of two elongated metal pieces, ceremonial and ornamental in nature, topped with stylized serpent heads. The pieces feature a slender construction and a synthetic treatment of forms, with zoomorphic finials of striking visual presence and an execution linked to the Gan artistic tradition. The surface retains a dark patina with greenish and earthy tones, as well as oxidations and irregularities characteristic of the metal alloy and the passage of time. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
