Troas, Kolone Hemiobol Ca. 5th century BC. Rare (No reserve price)

A rare survivor of the Troad’s early silver coinage, this tiny fifth-century BC fraction belongs to a little-documented issue absent from standard references. Its helmeted head and star-shaped reverse resemble Kolone’s later bronze types, suggesting an attribution to that city, although its mint remains uncertain. Troas, Kolone (?). Ca. 5th century BC. Hemiobol (Silver, 7.9 mm, 0.32 g). Obv: Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet Rev: Star of four rays with central pellet and pellets between rays. Reference: CNG E-311, lot 832; Gorny & Mosch 212, lot 1769; Pecunem 8, lot 134; otherwise unpublished in the standard references. Rare. During the fifth century BC, towns across the Troad struck tiny silver fractions, often without inscriptions naming their mint. This rare issue is tentatively attributed to Kolone: its helmeted head, probably Athena, and star-shaped reverse echo the city’s later bronze coinage. These shared designs suggest an earlier silver coinage for Kolone, though the attribution remains unconfirmed.
