Tray - Oak - England late 19th c.

Elegant and generously sized antique oval serving tray, probably of English origin, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. Crafted from beautifully figured oak, displaying a rich, warm colour and a particularly attractive natural grain, the tray features a decorative metal gallery running around its perimeter, supported by small turned baluster-shaped posts with spherical finials. The two sides are fitted with finely turned wooden handles, mounted on gracefully shaped metal brackets. An oval metal plaque, left unengraved, decorates the centre of the wooden surface, adding a refined touch to the overall design. The tray stands on four small spherical feet, slightly raising it above the supporting surface. The combination of richly grained oak, elegantly shaped wooden handles and aged metalwork gives this piece considerable character and charm. Both decorative and practical, it would make a beautiful addition to a traditional dining room, an English country house interior or an elegant antique furniture collection. Condition Good overall antique condition, with signs of age and use consistent with its period. The metal retains an attractive, naturally aged, dark and matte patina, with areas of oxidation and surface wear. The oak displays a lovely warm color and pronounced grain, with minor surface marks and signs of use. The original patina enhances the authentic antique character of the piece.
