Traditional rural cart with barred sides, Spanish Popular School, 19th Century

Descriptio Carved and assembled wood with wrought iron fittings. An antique agricultural cart, originally built for rural work using animal traction, with an open rectangular frame and sides formed by vertical bars that lend visual lightness to the solid structure. The large spoked wheels, reinforced with metal rims, retain a rich patina of use, visible in the oxidation, wear, and marks accumulated over time. The wood’s surface displays natural cracks, erosion, and remnants of heavily worn polychromy, enriching the piece’s aesthetic appeal and accentuating its authentic folk character. The construction demonstrates traditional artisanal solutions typical of 19th-century rural Spain, designed to ensure strength and functionality in daily agricultural work. The robustness of its forms, the beauty of the aged textures, and the strong ethnographic component make this cart an extraordinary piece of decorative arts linked to the historical heritage of rural Spain.
