Topazio (attr.) - Decanter - 'Claret jug' - .925 silver

A typical neo-Renaissance style cut crystal wine carafe with a silver mount and detailed relief work, presumably manufactured by a renowned silversmith such as Topazio from Portugal The silver collar features a fine relief band with dancing and musical putti/cherubs and bacchants surrounded by grapevines Under the pouring spout is a detailed Bacchus mask The elegantly curved handle is adorned with leaf motifs and grape clusters The hinged lid is fitted with a thumb rest in the form of a climbing lion holding a shield The body is made of clear, heavy crystal glass with geometrically cut diamond facets and vertical indentations at the broad base The silver mount is stamped with '0.925' (see photo 6) The weight is 1.78 kg Note: the repoussé work has lost some detail due to polishing In very good condition, wear consistent with age and use Each item is packed with the utmost care, securely packaged and insured for shipment
