Top Quality Keichousaurus hui Early Triassic Marine...

Scientific name: Keichousaurus hui, Young 1958 (marine reptile Pachypleurosauridae family) Location: Guanglin, Guizhou Province of China Geological Formation: Falang - Huxia Formation Age: Early Triassic (~242 million years ago) Size: 10 cm - Matrix: 16 cm x 13,5 cm x 0,6 cm Ref: J727 Observations: An outstanding and exceptionally large sub-adult specimen of Keichosaurus hui. This remarkable fossil exhibits a particularly fascinating and uncommon taphonomic feature: the neck is dramatically curved backward in a pronounced post-mortem posture, with the skull positioned beneath the body. This unusual configuration makes it an especially striking example of fossil preservation. The specimen displays exceptional skeletal completeness and authenticity, preserving the entire tail, vertebral column, limbs, carpals, and digits in remarkable condition. Preparation was carried out using sandblasting techniques, with subtle color enhancement applied to selected bones where anatomical details were less pronounced. Additional excavation around the skeletal elements was performed to improve their definition and visual presentation. Several natural fractures in the surrounding matrix have been carefully repaired and stabilized. An exceptionally impressive, highly complete, and unusually large adult specimen, combining remarkable preservation, distinctive taphonomic characteristics, and outstanding aesthetic appeal. Keichousaurus hui is a small marine reptile from the Triassic of southern China. A member of the Pachypleurosauridae family, with a long neck, paddle-like limbs, and a slender tail, adapted for swimming in shallow marine environments. Fossils, often found in black shale, reveal a diet of small fish and invertebrates, inferred from its needle-like teeth. It is also very interesting to observe how the veins of natural calcite that run through the rock also run through the fossil, an indicator that the bones are all authentic, since the mineralization processes that the rock subsequently underwent along its natural fractures, mineralized everything, including the parts that ran through the skeleton. All of our fossils come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Every week, the issued Certificates of Authenticity are updated in our database verification system on our website. If you find that your certificate has not yet been updated, please contact us and we will update it immediately. Display box not included.
