This is how I remember England by Gary Westall Painting 11.0 x 14.0 :: The photo that Susan Wakefield took at Bognor Hill in the South Downs in England reminded me of my childhood. At first it was the unique colors of the landscape that fascinated me: the intense blue of the sky the warm ochre and rust tones of the fields and the bright path winding through the landscape. But as I painted the landscape increasingly became a memory. For me the English landscape is closely linked to my childhood—to paths fields hedgerows and that special light. That is why the painting does not attempt to photographically reproduce a specific place. Rather it is a memory of a place and a time. Signed lower right.
