TheArtOfAGhost - Ataràxia III (The Wait For Clarity series) -Diptych

“Clarity does not arrive when darkness disappears, but when we learn to look through it.” Ataràxia III is born as a moment of suspension within The Wait For Clarity, a series dedicated to that fragile interval of the human spirit in which the answer has not yet come, but something inside us has already begun to change. The work is conceived as a diptych composed of two vertical canvases, seemingly autonomous but profoundly linked by the continuity of the atmosphere. The two surfaces become two portions of the same inner space: a vast, rarefied landscape, traversed by atmospheric matter that oscillates between deep blue, gray, and the paler tones of light. The sky occupies much of the composition and is built through material stratifications, marks, glazing, and painterly gestures that generate an unstable surface, almost in constant flux. The clouds do not merely represent a natural phenomenon: they seem to belong to a suspended space, where time slows down and everything remains in anticipation. At the base of the two canvases, a dark horizon line interrupts this vastness. From it emerge slender, almost archetypal shapes that seem to belong to a remote and undefined landscape. They are barely hinted presences, more traces than narrative elements, capable of suggesting something without ever fully revealing it. The central emptiness between the two canvases becomes an integral part of the work. It is not a separation, but a threshold: an interruption that allows the two images to breathe and, at the same time, keeps them in relation. Artist Biography Simone Pappalardo, known in the art scene as TheArtOfAGhost, is an Italian contemporary artist whose research focuses on examining human emotions and the power of visual symbolism. His practice develops through a strongly personal painting, in which matter, atmosphere, and psychological dimension become tools to explore the deepest aspects of inner experience. His works have entered private collections in several European countries, including Italy, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Greece, Spain, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Austria, the Netherlands, and Hungary, contributing to the gradual spread of his research in the international emergent contemporary art scene. With The Wait For Clarity, TheArtOfAGhost concentrates this research on the concept of waiting: that inner territory in which an answer is not yet visible, but something has already begun to change. Ataràxia III belongs to this path as a reflection on the possibility of finding quiet not through erasing uncertainty, but through its acceptance. Symbolism The sky represents the mental and spiritual dimension of waiting. It is an immense, changing space, impossible to grasp fully, where thoughts, fears, and intuitions overlap like layers of clouds. The horizon is the boundary between what we know and what we still cannot understand. It is present, visible, but always distant. For this reason it becomes one of the central symbols of the The Wait For Clarity series: clarity can be perceived as possibility even before it is reached. The dark forms emerging from the landscape suggest interior presences, fragments of memory, and thoughts still lacking a definitive shape. They do not have a precise identity because they belong to a more universal dimension: that part of the psyche that continues to exist even when we do not yet know how to name it. Finally, the diptych introduces an essential duality: two visions, two moments, two states of the same consciousness. The distance between the canvases symbolically becomes the space that separates question from understanding. Ataràxia — from the Greek ἀταραξία, “imperturbability,” “absence of disturbance” — takes on here a personal meaning: not the absence of restlessness, but the possibility of traversing them to reach a deeper form of calm. It is precisely in waiting, before everything finally becomes clear, that this calm begins to take shape.
