The Complete Set of: The Virtues Lucas van Leyden

The complete set in clear, slightly grey impressions. All sheets bear the erased address of Maarten Peeters. On Bartsch 127, 132 and 133, a Roman numeral appears in the lower right corner. In Bartsch 132 the spelling ‘Vortitudo‘ with a ‘V‘ is still present; in the third state, this was changed to an ‘F‘. The Albertina in Vienna, also preserves an impression of the sheet ‘Fides‘ from the series bearing a Roman numeral. Hollstein records no comparable impressions with roman numerals. Five sheets with a fine margin around the platemark, one sheet trimmed to the platemark, and another trimmed to the platemark on two sides. – A few small spots here and there. One sheet has a tiny hole; another has a tear at the lower centre, one sheet the lower left corner attached. Overall in good condition. | 1494 - Leiden - 1533 | 15.-18.
