The Circumcision in the Stable Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn

A very fine lifetime impression of New Hollstein's second state, with narrow margins around the platemark. The present work is one of six scenes from the infancy and childhood of Christ etched by Rembrandt in 1654. Unusually, Rembrandt depicts the Circumcision not in the Temple but in a stable, lending the scene an intimate, domestic character. The first state, distinguished by its sharp plate corners, is extremely rare, with only two impressions known. – A small area of compression in the paper in the upper left corner, otherwise in very good condition. | 1606 Leiden - Amsterdam 1669 | 15.-18.
