Telefunken - R 197 - Little Melody Tube radio

Telefunken Little Melody R 197 – Valve radio with built-in turntable – Italy, late 1950s The charm of valve radios and vinyl records meet in this Telefunken Little Melody R 197, a tabletop radiogram with a refined 1950s taste. Both radio and turntable are fully functional, as stated by the seller. The model, identified by the inscription on the rear panel, is cataloged in 1958 and belongs to Telefunken Italia, Milan. It represents an interesting testimony to the household appliances that brought radio reception and music playback together in a single compact piece of furniture. The wooden cabinet features a glossy brown finish, visible grain, and thin gold fillets that follow its contours. The rounded corners and the ivory-colored front frame give the appliance an elegant profile, enhanced by the vertical-slat speaker grille and the model’s cursive inscription. The front hosts the tuning scale with station and waveband indications, two knobs for the controls, and an ivory-colored keyboard. The hinged top cover, supported by a metal rod, protects the turntable compartment: inside you can see the light-green turntable surface and the ivory-colored tonearm. The receiver uses a valve circuit for AM/FM reception, documented in the electrical schematic of the Telefunken R 197 model. The turntable is integrated into the upper compartment, forming with the radio a single tabletop appliance.
