The prince of Wales, 49 Wigmore Street, London, Taxidermy: A Victorian Asian Tropical Bird Firescreen or Room Divider, circa 1860-1879, by George Frederick Butt, Taxidermist, (Late Edwin Ward), Naturalist to H.R.H. The prince of Wales, 49 Wigmore Street, London, a typical colourful display of various Asian tropical birds, to include - Long-tailed minivet, two Coppersmith barbet's, two Black-hooded oriole's, Pied kingfisher, White-throated kingfisher, Common kingfisher, Rose-ringed parakeet, Plum-headed parakeet, common Iora, and a small Minivet, all perched and mounted upon a centrally positioned branch, amidst natural grasses, foliage and fauna, set above painted simulated and pebble covered groundwork, enclosed within a period ebonised framed five-glass firescreen or room divider, maximum width 84cm by 12.5cm by 118.5cm, taxidermist's full paper trade label to interior groundwork lower left. George Butt, formerly Edwin Ward's chief taxidermist, carried on the establishment in Wigmore Street under the same name. This incensed Rowland - by this time in business himself - who eventually bought him out in 1911 Provenance: The Property of an American Collector
