Tanzania

An absolute masterpiece for the serious collector of tribal art and African art history. This monumental and rare standard work was published to mark the eponymous groundbreaking exhibition at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus (Munich) in 1994. With in-depth scholarly contributions and introductory texts by the renowned expert Marc L. Felix, this book worldwide is regarded as the ultimate reference work for traditional sculpture from Tanzania. The catalog offers an unparalleled overview of masterpieces (such as ceremonial masks, throne chairs, and sculptures) and is entirely bilingual in German and Swahili. The book is richly documented with 522 black-and-white photographs, detailed geographical maps, and an extensive bibliography. This specific copy is in an exceptionally rare mint condition / deadstock (Collectors' Grade). The book has certainly never been read and the pages have never, absolutely never, been turned. The binding is extremely tight and the spine is perfectly square. The book has only been opened to produce the photographs for this lot. To prevent any stress or crack lines on the extremely delicate linen spine, the catalog was opened for photography at a minimal angle (this is clearly visible in the photos). Including the original cardboard protective slipcase. A unique opportunity for building or expanding a specialized art-historical library. Shipping is via Track & Trace. When purchasing multiple lots, I apply, where relevant, a fair adjustment to the shipping costs, appropriate to the total volume and insured value. Collection is possible in The Hague, Benoordehout (2596GN).
