1936 Red Paifang 1 Yuan Specimen in Top Grade (t) CHINA--REPUBLIC. Lot of (2). Central Bank of China. 1 Yuan, 1936. P-209s1 & 209s2. Front & Back Specimens. PMG Choice Uncirculated 63 to Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ. Printed by Chung Hwa Bookshop. Bold, red inks adorn the obverse with the Wan Gu Chang Chun Paifang in Confucius Cemetery on the right; the reverse is red-brown, with the bank title and denomination in English. One of the most iconic and key notes of the Central Bank of China, as well as the 'Big Four' national banks. The obverse is in gem grade, while the reverse is in choice uncirculated. Only three of each side have been graded, and these grades are the highest for each, respectively, making this the highest graded pair extant. An exciting 'must-have' note for the collector of Republic of China era banknotes. We expect intense competition on the day of the sale. Estimate: $6,000 - $10,000.
