This pair of vintage earrings offers a truly stunning appearance. High-carat gold and approximately 5.75 ct of the finest diamonds combine to create a glamorous eye-catcher that exemplifies the spirit of the 1980s. Jewellery of this decade can hardly be understood without its cultural context: it was a time of economic dynamism, accelerating media, and consciously staged glamour. Fashion became louder, more extroverted, and increasingly served as a means of confident self-presentation—a development clearly reflected in jewellery. Boldness became the guiding principle, and jewellery grew larger, more prominent, and materially more opulent. Yellow gold, warm and radiant, dominated design, often combined with polished surfaces and sculptural forms. Within this spectrum, earrings hold a special significance. Hardly any other category of jewellery expresses the visual language of the 1980s so clearly. Earrings became a statement—not merely an accessory, but a defining element of the overall appearance. Size and volume are characteristic. In the context of “power dressing,” large earrings emphasize the wearer’s presence and become a visible expression of style and attitude. Our pair is a particularly luxurious example of this era. The clips consist of two stylised heart shapes, elegantly interlaced and slightly movable, layered one above the other. While the upper half is executed in a polished finish, the lower half is entirely set with 96 high-quality brilliant-cut diamonds each. The high-carat yellow gold lends the pair a wonderfully warm glow—indeed, the combination of diamonds set in yellow gold is itself a characteristic feature of the period. According to the hallmarks, the earrings were made in Italy and came to us from an important Stuttgart collection. They are very well preserved and embody the luxurious style of the 1980s in an impressive way.
