Studio Delu. (1976) - Popeye, « K.-O. par amour »

Studio Delu (1976) – The Timeless Ones – Popeye, “KO for Love” Shadow Frame 27 × 27 cm – Mixed media – Signed work With its collection The Timeless Ones, Studio Delu takes comic book characters off the page to give them life in relief. In “KO for Love,” roses overpower the punches! On this true comic book page, Olive faints after receiving a bouquet from Popeye, in the middle of a boxing match. Declared the winner, the sailor seems mainly concerned with the flowers to be put back in the water. A scene where tenderness upends the rules of the ring. In the foreground, a Popeye collectible figurine as a boxer, gloves raised, extends the scene into space. Its attitude, its gloves and red shoes respond to the drawings on the panel and give depth to this humor-filled composition. The whole piece is assembled by hand in a black Shadow Frame, whose depth highlights the dialogue between the printed page and the figurine. Each Studio Delu creation is made individually. The choice of elements and their arrangement give this work its singular character.
