Steuler Dümler Breiden - Lamp - Majolica - Mushroom lamp, 1970s, Steuler

Extraordinary vintage mushroom lamp / ball lamp / Space Age table lamp – 1970s Very special original vintage table lamp from the 1970s with a wonderfully typifying Space Age design and an exceptionally beautiful light effect. The robust red, multi-profiled lamp base is made of ceramic. Stylistically it recalls designs or productions by Steuler or Dümler & Breiden; I would not want to claim a definite manufacturer. The base is marked with “GERMANY” and “550/10”. Especially appealing is the large, almost spherical shade, which gives the lamp its characteristic appearance of a mushroom lamp. It is not glass, but a shape-stable shade made from a finely textured, textile-like material on a solid carrier, probably cellulose-based. The surface has a very fine woven- or knit-like texture. This materiality makes the lamp extraordinary when lit: the light is very softly and evenly diffused and takes on a beautiful warm beige to yellow tone. The delicate structure of the shade also creates a very special light diffusion – very atmospheric, homely, and noticeably more unusual than with a classical fabric or glass shade. Even when off, the combination of the intensely red ceramic base and the cream-colored ball/mushroom shade is an exceptionally decorative design object. The lamp is fully functional, completely original, and in a very beautiful, well-kept, undamaged condition. The cord and switch are also original: a cream-colored cord with a matching cream-colored push switch. Dimensions approx.: • Overall height including shade: 25 cm • Height of the ceramic base: 11 cm • Diameter of the base: 9 cm • Diameter of the shade: 18 cm A truly characterful piece for lovers of Space Age, mushroom lamps, 70s design, and original vintage interiors.
