Statue, Twee Afrikaanse Maria beelden - 34 cm - Wood

Two beautiful examples of stylized African Virgin Mary figures, hand-carved from solid, heavy hardwood (probably ebony). African, circa 1980-1990 This specific type of religious wood carving is characteristic of East African art movements from the mid-20th century, in particular the well-known Binadamu style of the Makonde tribe from Tanzania and Mozambique. Both sculptures depict the Virgin Mary in a serene, praying stance with hands clasped. They show the classic characteristics of this art form: • Elongated proportions: a very slender, elegant and vertically stretched silhouette. • Texture and detail: the left figure features a beautifully detailed, scaly pattern on the garment, while the right figure has more flowing, vertical folds in the cloak. Dimensions: listed with the photos. Condition: in good condition with minimal signs of wear. Photos are part of the description. These were taken under artificial light; color may vary. Mood impressions are shown. They are well packed and sent by registered mail. Jiljes where quality and service come first!
