Standing Proud - Newel Hunter

Standing Proud by Newel Hunter Painting 18.0 x 24.0 :: Painted on an 18 x 24 x .25 inch hardboard panel Standing Proud is a perfect example of Hunter’s fluid and uniquely expressive style -- which so often results in arresting images with a sense of depth and sculptural form. This painting features fluid sweeping brushstrokes in monochromatic tones of black and white creating a dynamic and abstract form that suggests movement and depth. The interplay between sharp defined areas and softer blurred transitions invites the viewer to explore the contrast between control and spontaneity. The composition is balanced yet asymmetrical with the darker strokes grounding the piece and the lighter areas adding a sense of airiness and flow. The texture and layering of the paint contribute to a tactile quality evoking both natural elements and abstract expressions. The strength of this piece lies in its masterful use of contrast and fluidity which effectively captures a sense of motion and emotional complexity. The choice of a monochrome palette heightens the focus on form and gesture allowing the viewer to engage with the essence of the movement without distraction.
