Rings like this sapphire ring with its radiant entourage of sparkling diamonds are true classics of jewellery history. They have experienced a resurgence in popularity, particularly in recent years, as Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess of Wales, wears a very similar piece from the London court jeweller Garrards on her ring finger - a piece of jewellery formerly worn by Princess Diana. The white gold band of this piece wraps around the finger with restraint and elegance, before merging into a precisely shaped oval flower on the front. Here the ring presents a first-class sapphire weighing about 2.10 ct in deep blue, framed by about 0.80 ct of fine brilliant cut diamonds. The ten diamonds of very good colour (top Wesselton to Wesselton) and beautiful clarity sparkle even brighter in their settings of high-carat white gold - and the contrast with the natural dark blue sapphire gives the ring a particularly glamorous tension. We have had the ring examined by an independent laboratory to test the material properties and confirm that the sapphire is a natural gemstone.
