SOUTHERN AFRICA 1936 Schlesinger Air Race. There were 14 entrants, but only nine aircraft took part in the race, five dropping out prior to the race starting. The race began from Portsmouth Airport at 6.15am on Tuesday 29th Sep. Only one competitor finished the race. This cover was flown by A Clouston & F. E. Tasker. He has endorsed it 'Crashed, engine failure, Telegraph Rd, Southern Rhodesia 3rd Oct 1936' and it has his signature. It crashed 150 miles south of Salisbury. Very uncommon.
