Signed J. Lucas – Scenes from a popular festival. Spanish School, 19th Century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 42 cm x 23 cm each. A pair of genre scenes depicting figures adorned with mantillas, fans, and regional costumes, set in a lively rural environment during a fair. The loose brushstrokes and luminous atmosphere evoke the vibrancy of popular celebrations, where the details in the clothing and the characters’ demeanor convey an idealized vision of traditional life. The expressive treatment of gestures and gazes reinforces the narrative character of the scene. Its value lies in preserving a visual and symbolic memory of the everyday and the festive. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions.
