[Signed] [First Edition] This Thing Don't Lead to Heaven Crews

New York: William Morrow and Company, 1970. First edition, First printing. Octavo, 186pp. Inscribed by Crews on the half-title page. Crews's third novel and one of his scarcest. The book was only ever released in hardcover. Very Good plus in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Binding tight and firm. Spotting to the fore-edge and top edge. Unclipped dust jacket shows age toning and edgewear. Closed tear near the top edge of the front panel. Still an appealing copy of an uncommon book. This Thing Don't Lead to Heaven centers on Jefferson Davis Munroe, a midget masseur in a Florida retirement home, caught between two women, one pulling him toward life, the other toward death. Set in a Florida retirement home, it's Crews at his most darkly comic: freakish, tender, and relentless in equal measure.
