An attractive Japanese-made Seiko 5 Automatic is up for auction, equipped with the well-known 21-jewel Seiko 7S26 automatic movement. This unit stands out especially for its unusual green luminescent dial of the “full lume” type, which takes on an intense green hue in the dark after being exposed to light. The photographs show the real effect of the luminescence. The dial features a very characteristic configuration. It has applied metallic hour indices, the SEIKO logo and the Seiko 5 emblem at 12, a day/date window at 3, and an external 24-hour scale numbered 13 to 24. The hour and minute hands also contain luminescent material, providing excellent legibility in low light. The stainless steel case measures approximately 37 mm in diameter, not including the crown, a classic and very comfortable size on the wrist. The crown is located roughly at 4 o’clock, following the characteristic design of many Seiko 5 models. At the back we find a transparent case back, which allows direct viewing of the automatic movement and its rotor. The movement bears the corresponding Seiko and caliber inscriptions. The watch is accompanied by a metal bracelet with a SEIKO clasp, the “5” emblem and JAPAN. Operation The watch functions correctly and keeps good time during normal use. A professional timegrapher measurement or an extended chronometric test has not been performed, so I cannot specify its exact deviation in seconds per day. The hour, minute and second functions are operational. Condition The watch is a used piece and shows normal signs of wear and age. The case, bracelet and clasp show scratches, small marks and surface wear visible in the photographs. The crystal also shows some signs of use. The dial remains attractive and its indices, texts and 24-hour scale are clearly visible. The luminescence continues to operate with notable intensity, as explicitly shown in the photographs taken in darkness. The transparent case back allows observing the visual state of the movement and the rotor’s operation. Although the watch has a water resistance indication, the seal has not been recently tested, so its water resistance is not guaranteed. The photographs are an integral part of the description and show the real condition of the watch. It is recommended to examine them carefully, as they allow assessing the case, crystal, dial, bracelet, clasp, back, movement and luminescence.
